Spiced hot chocolate

I love making my own Christmas gifts for friends and families. Theres something special about giving a gift that you have put a lot of thought and effort into. Plus, I find gift shopping a little stressful – its always too busy in the shops and nearly every time I find a bargain online I’m disappointed when a poor quality product arrives and the amount I dish out in return postage kind of defeats the purpose of grabbing a ‘bargain’ in the first place. Plus I think I put too much pressure on myself to find the perfect gift that I end up leaving it until the last minute and then grabbing a gift voucher instead.

So this year Im making some of my gifts (as well as buying a few… which may or may not end up being gift vouchers ;) I’ve earmarked a few non-edible DIY gifts to take a crack at too, but for now, here is the first cab of the rank in a series of homemade Christmas gift ideas. I’ve lined up a few treats to make too – some crispy apple granola, a chai tea blend, some infused oil and gingery pumpkin bars which I have been working at for awhile and finally nailed. I’ll post these recipes in the next week or two. And for even more ideas, I’ve put together a Pintrest board of other great ideas I’ve found online over the past few weeks.

Spiced hot chocolate

Notes: This recipe is based on my Best hot chocolate, ever recipe. If you dont like spiciness, you can easily omit the cayenne for a lusciously rich and smooth drink.

Spiced hot chocolate mix
1 cup raw cacao
2/3 cup coconut sugar
1 Tbsp cinnamon
1/2 – 1 tsp cayenne pepper

Spiced hot chocolate drink
3 heaped Tbsp of spiced hot chocolate mix
1 Cup milk

To make hot chocolate, add 3 tablespoons of the spiced chocolate mix to 3 tablespoons of the milk in a saucepan over low to medium heat. Bring to a low simmer, remove from heat, and enjoy!
